Rob Gregoretti, PSA-MP, IAPS/MC, AAPL
Artist's Statement
"I describe my work as atmospheric, mystical and romantic, possessing a hauntingly mysterious quality. It is all about the feel and mood for me, especially the light. My intention is to arouse a deep soulful and spiritual connection, to be moved only by the emotion etched in the composition." - Rob Gregoretti
Biography
Rob Gregoretti is an American born Contemporary Expressionist Painter and Musician currently working and residing in New York. His award-winning paintings have brought him International success, with his work collected world-wide. Gregoretti’s images push the envelope between reality and the abstract and take on as Gregoretti calls “having an atmospheric, spiritual quality, that reflects a broad range of emotions.”
At the age of seven years old, Rob Gregoretti was destined to become the visionary artist that he has achieved today. As a young child during his summer recess from school he would spend two weeks visiting his grandparents.
His grandfather was one of twelve original Italian tailors in New York City at the turn of the century making custom vests for celebrities such as Jackie Gleason and Jack Benny. His grandmother would sit and work beside him, meticulously making the button holes for each vest. It was an art of its own. For Gregoretti, it was a beautiful, memorable time in his life and one that was surely an inspiration for his art and a large part of his upbringing. Gregoretti would sit a small table all day in his grandfathers workshop watching his grandparents work at their craft as tailors, while he sketched and observed nature through a window. Working mainly in black and white in those early years, gave Gregoretti a strong understanding of values in relation to his subject. The approach while working in black and white was raw and uninhibited. Drawing was and has always been the foundation and the fundamental basis of his art.
Gregoretti studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, where he majored in advertising. After graduating from the School of Visual Arts, Gregoretti attended Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and then finally to the Art Students League in New York City. His professional career began working as an art director in every top New York advertising agency on Madison Avenue with accounts in fashion and consumer products. Around this time and the years that followed, Gregoretti began working exclusively as a full-time Illustrator, with a major client list in editorial, book, advertising and TV. After many years of working in the commercial end of the business, Rob Gregoretti began his journey as a Fine Art Painter.
Gregoretti is recognized today as a master, a virtuoso and a powerful creative force...a true visionary. His unparalleled reputation for creating images that evoke such emotion, is unsurpassed. The dream-like quality you experience as you enter or walk into one of his paintings, opens your imagination up to endless possibilities. His unique vision and style has inspired others.
Gregoretti has exhibited in prominent galleries and museums such as The National Arts Club, NY, The Butler Institute of American Art Museum, OH, The Salmagundi Club, NY, and The International Association of Pastel Societies, NM. Gregoretti’s honors include the distinguished Dianne B. Bernhard GOLD Medal Award and the Art Spirit Foundation SILVER Medal Award, both for Excellence in Pastel presented to him by The Allied Artists of America, Inc., NY, The Audubon Artists GOLD Medal of Honor and the prestigious SILVER Medal Award of Honor, from The Historic Salmagundi Club, NY, for Excellence in the medium of Pastel. Gregoretti holds the distinguished title as Master Pastelist by The Pastel Society of America, NY, Fellow Maxima Cum Laude by The American Artists Professional League Inc., NY, Signature Member by The Hudson Valley Art Association Inc.,CT, an Elected Resident Member by The Salmagundi Club in NYC, an Elected Member, "by invitation only" from The Allied Artists of America Inc., NY and has achieved Master Circle Status by The International Association of Pastel Societies, NM.
